So, I have some plans for this month. On the 23rd, Sarah (Patrick's girlfriend, her picture is to the right in the Flikr show, she has the long hair and pierced lip), Stacey, Casey, Melissa, Michelle and I are having a night out. We'll be going to see Fluffgirl Burlesque at a nightclub here. It's going to be quite the night. We're all dressing up and Stacey has marked her book out so that she can style our hair that afternoon. I'm still hunting Stacey's dress for her. She wants a full circle skirt and tight jacket a la the Dior New Look. I'm going in a slim cut 30's bombshell dress. Sarah is all set with her corset dress.
I was surprised to find out that apparently not too many people know about burlesque dance. I had to show Stacey the documentary I have Pretty Things that was on HBO (still might be on demand) that shows just how talented and beautiful the original strippers were.
I also have GoGoRobics by the World Famous Pontani Sisters which is a whole lot of fun to work out with. Another dancer I get a kick out of is Miss Dirty Martini who is a gorgeous blonde curvy bombshell that fan dances all over the world.
What I love about burlesque is that it's a dance, an art. There's such style in moving your body and removing just the essential clothing to make people think that they see more than they really do. The burlesque stars of yesterday and today are women that are comfortable with their bodies and with their sexuality. They're happy to be women, actually they relish in their feminity, no body image issues for them-how could anyone want to possess anything other than lush generous curves and miles of creamy skin?
Burlesque dancing, for me, would be a private one customer show. That's just because I'm married, though. If I were a single woman, believe you me, I'd be up there thrusting my hips from side to side to a drumbeat. Because while I might not be conventionally "sexy" when standing next to a modern stripper, sugar I am exactly what the burlesque doctor ordered.
